ABOUT US
The Indivisible Leeward Chapter started as a group of friends joining forces as a unified voice against oppression, and to “do good” in the community. The vast focus of circa 2016 volunteerism efforts was “good deed based.”
We worked with working poor families in the Leeward area, as well as Houseless people at the Waianae Boat Harbor, now known as Pu’uhonua O’ Wai‘anae. We did everything from large clothing and hygiene drives to connecting the houseless communities with resources, such as support that the Hawaiian Humane Society was able to offer their pets. We provided school supplies for the youth for multiple years, and organizing educational activities. Through these efforts, our cadre of volunteers grew.
The 2017 National Women’s March held at the Hawai‘i State Capitol acted as a springboard for grassroots volunteer groups to enter the political arena. In 2020, systemic racism came to the forefront with the death of George Floyd. To bring awareness to this injustice, we took a knee in front of the Kapolei Police Station. Our actions highlighted aspects present in our community that contributed to systemic racism, as well as ways to combat against them. One of the areas we highlighted was how persons of color are impeded from voting, and how it affects elections. Also in 2022, we took to the streets on July 4, 2022 at Ala Moana Beach Park to protest the overtune of Roe vs. Wade, stripping our civil liberties..
We are an inclusive community of people with varying knowledge, skills & abilities. Each member is valued as we strive to combine our unique gifts to make positive change on the Leeward side!
