How postcarding works

Table of Contents

Sending handwritten postcards is one of the most effective things you can do to support democracy. Research consistently shows that personal, handwritten outreach moves people to vote in ways that digital ads and mass mailings simply can't match.

How postcarding campaigns work

Postcarding campaigns typically focus on voter registration and voter turnout. When you sign up for postcarding, you'll receive a packet with postcards, a list of addresses, and a script to guide what you write. Your job is to write a short, personal message encouraging someone to register or show up to vote, address the card, add a stamp, and mail it by a specified date.

You can write postcards on your own at home whenever it fits your schedule, or join a postcard party: a group gathering (in person or virtual) where Indivisible members write together. Many people find the group setting more fun and motivating.

What you'll need

If you’re joining a postcarding party with your local Indivisible chapter, you don’t need a thing: postcards, stamps, and a pen will be provided as well as addresses and a script.

When you choose to send postcards from home, you can either order postcards + addresses from your Indivisible chapter - or (if you already have the postcards) we’ll email you a list of addresses to send them to.

How to get started

Postcarding campaigns are organized at the local chapter level, so your first step is to find and join your local Indivisible chapter. Your chapter will let you know about upcoming postcard parties, how to request a packet to write at home, and when to send your completed cards.
