Hawaiʻi Island - 2026 Elections

KIND's Standards & Priorities

These are the standards KIND uses as context for the pledge below.

Personal Integrity

  • The candidate must have a record of acting and representing their community ethically.

Campaign Transparency: No Dark Money

  • No contributions from Super PACs or other dark money sources.
  • Support for Act 11 and further reforms limiting campaign contributions to persons, not artificial entities.

State & County Policy Priorities

  • Good Government
  • Support state and county oversight of executive agencies; hold officials accountable for corruption or abuse of office.
  • Support a free, independent local press and full compliance with Hawaiʻi's Sunshine Law and public records requests.
  • Protect and expand voting access, including Hawaiʻi's all-mail voting system.

Affordability & Economic Justice

  • Prioritize affordable housing, healthcare, and food security; ensure wealthy residents and corporations pay their fair share in state taxes.
  • Support a living wage, the right to unionize, and paid family leave.
  • Protect and expand human services for keiki, kūpuna, veterans, and low-income families, including Ready Keiki.

Immigrant & Community Safety

  • Support "Protected Locations" standards at state and county facilities.
  • Oppose HPD cooperation with federal immigration enforcement.
  • Oppose construction of any immigrant detention centers.
  • Support full implementation of the Trust Act.
  • Publicly commit to protecting immigrant communities from federal overreach.

Climate & Environmental Justice

  • Support Hawaiʻi's transition to 100% renewable energy; oppose fossil fuel subsidies.
  • Oppose new AI data centers on Hawaiʻi Island.
  • Hold polluters accountable; prioritize investment in overburdened communities.
  • Protect land, water, and cultural resources consistent with Mālama ʻĀina.

Honoring Hawai'i

  • Embrace the Spirit of Aloha as mandated by the Hawaiʻi State Constitution.
  • Address racial inequities affecting Native Hawaiians and other disadvantaged communities.

THE PLEDGE

KIND asks candidates for state and county office to sign this pledge:

  • I understand that the current federal administration is undermining the Constitution and the rule of law in an attempt to establish an authoritarian system based on white nationalist ideology. I am committed to speaking up and taking action to fight for our democratic system and against the corruption and cruelty which are at the core of their efforts.
  • I will defend Hawaiʻi's autonomy against federal overreach, and I will work with other state and local leaders doing the same to protect our residents and our rights.
  • I believe that diversity is one of the strengths of the Hawaiian community, and that all persons are entitled to equal treatment under the law, including the right to vote, to bodily autonomy, to choose who they love, and to fulfill their gender identity without fear or discrimination. I will work to protect and defend disadvantaged people from discrimination wherever it occurs.
  • I believe the wealth of our country and state has been built by the people who do the work, not those who sit on corporate boards. I will act to support workers and their families, and to provide a quality education and the opportunity for success for all.
  • I believe that people who are not able to succeed in the economy deserve the support of the community and government so they have the food, shelter, and medical care needed for good health, and the resources to become self-supporting, where possible.

As a candidate for public office, I affirm my commitment to advancing the civil liberties, dignity, and human rights of all people. I recognize that diversity, equity, and inclusion are strengths that unite us. I acknowledge the real harm done to LGBTQ+ communities, particularly transgender people, through discrimination, intimidation, and exclusion. I pledge to use every tool available to me in office to protect, uplift, and empower LGBTQ+ people and women.
