Flip Congress Blue

Republicans control the House and Senate, giving Trump unchecked power to push his misogynistic, racist, authoritarian agenda.

In the 2026 elections, we have the opportunity to shift control of the U.S. Congress to the Democrats. They can hold the president accountable and block harmful legislation.

What's at stake

With the Republican Party controlling all three branches of government, no one is keeping the Trump regime accountable.

Instead of making life easier for everyday people, they are removing our healthcare, encouraging polluters, demolishing the White House, dispatching ICE to raid our cities, and sending our troops unprepared into forever wars.

They get away with it because the Republican leaders of the US House of Representatives and the US Senate let them.

We will stop them. When we elect enough Democratic Representatives and Senators, we restore the checks and balances that the Founders gave us.

How we take back control

Flipping Congress Blue means winning back the House while defending key Senate seats.

To get the majority in the House of Representatives, Democrats need to win more seats in competitive districts — places where the margin between candidates is narrow enough that turnout makes the difference.

In the Senate, we're defending seats in swing states to block Trump's judicial appointments and Cabinet confirmations.

That's where Indivisible volunteers come in.

The bigger picture: Blue Wave

Since 2018, Hawaiʻi residents have come together to write postcards, make phone calls, send texts, and knock on doors.

In 2025, we wrote 83,000 postcards to

  • Win a blue trifecta in Virginia: Governor + State Senate + State House
  • Pass Proposition 50 for redistricting California

We're building sustained momentum by getting a progressive Congress in place – while paving the way for 2028, when we'll have the chance to flip the White House blue.

Frequently asked questions

When is the election?

The 2026 House elections are on November 4, 2026. Every action we take between now and then helps increase Democratic turnout in competitive districts.

What does it take to Flip Congress Blue?

The House of Representatives has 435 seats, and all of them are up for election every two years. To control the House, a party needs more than half = at least 218 seats.

Right now, Republicans hold a narrow majority, which means they control which bills get voted on, which investigations move forward, and how the budget gets allocated.

If Democrats flip just a handful of seats in the 2026 elections, they take back control.

The Senate has 100 seats, with only one-third up for election every two years. In 2026, 34 Senate seats are on the ballot.

Republicans currently hold the majority, and defending Democratic seats and flipping competitive Republican seats are both critical to building back power in Congress.

Why do Hawaiʻi volunteers work on races outside Hawaiʻi?

Both of Hawaiʻi's House seats are already held by Democrats, so we can't change the outcome here.

But we can help flip competitive races in other states like Pennsylvania, California, and Arizona where a few thousand votes make the difference.

A volunteer in Hawaiʻi can write postcards to voters in a Pennsylvania district and help flip that seat.

What's a competitive district?

A competitive district is a place where the last election was close enough that either party could win.

For example, if a Republican won by only 2% in 2024, a strong Democratic turnout effort could make all the difference in 2026.

We focus our energy on these districts because that's where we can make the biggest impact.

Do I need to live in those districts to help?

No.

You can write postcards, make phone calls, and send texts from anywhere.

Most volunteers participate from home; some IHSN chapters also host postcard, phone banking, and text banking parties where you can join others to make a difference together.
