About Indivisible West Oʻahu

We are a part of Indivisible, a national grassroots movement formed in December 2016 to defeat the Trump agenda of racism, misogyny, and authoritarianism. Indivisible boasts a nationwide network of thousands of local groups across the US, representing over a million people. We engage with our elected officials at all levels of government to fight for progressive policies, democratic values, and a healthy and sustainable Hawai'i.

Indivisible West Oʻahu is the latest chapter in the Indivisible Hawai'i Statewide Network (IHSN). Although all who agree with Indivisible’s principles are welcome, we are primarily focused on providing opportunities for interested activists living in zip code areas 96706, 96707, 96792 and 96797. Geographically this includes Mākaha, Waiʻanae, Māʻili, Nānākuli, Ko Olina, Kapolei, ʻEwa, ʻEwa Beach, Kunia and Waipahu. We are not competing with other chapters, but many residents of West Oʻahu are unable or unwilling to travel to Honolulu and other locations to attend events.

What we do: protests, rallies, discussion forums, partnerships

We recently held our second successful rally in Kapolei for No Dictators/No Kings day and our attendance increased from ~200 to ~350 enthusiastic sign-waving attendees. While those numbers are small compared to Honolulu and other established chapters we are encouraged by the increase in attendance. We aim to hold open chapter meetings in both Kapolei and Nānākuli to allow the communities to get to know us and other activist groups. We look forward to continued growth and taking many more actions as part of Indivisible and IHSN and in partnership or solidarity with other activist organizations.

We are actively recruiting new members to serve as members and co-leaders. The level of involvement depends on your time and interests. You can focus on joining protests, the planning of and assisting with protests as a member of the core team, or participating in or leading a post card writing team. We are in particular need for members to act as media liaison, to manage our social media accounts, and to co-lead. The latter would require the demonstration of management and people skills, either in a prior occupation or as a member of the core team. A skilled drone operator would also be useful with crowd counts, photography and keeping an eye on what is going on in and around the demonstration.

West Oʻahu Chapter Goals

In 2026 our goals are aligned with the Indivisible Hawai'i Statewide Network's Protect Hawai'i 2026. We are focused on migrant rights, good government with free and fair elections, affordability for working families, healthcare access, LGBTQIA+ rights, and gun safety. We support flipping the U.S. Congress Blue in 2026 in order to provide guardrails for President Trump and his administration and to stop and reverse the country's descent into fascism before it is too late.
